Where to Start

First of all you need to get a bank account in any nationalised bank like SBI, PNB, CBI, BOI, UBI etc. or any private bank like ICICI, HDFC etc.
Secondly you need to ask your bank to provide you internet banking facility. This is generally an easy process at all the banks. You will be given a single page form to fill in some simple details and your signature for authentication. After that they will give you an internet banking kit comprising of an envelope containing a one time online user ID and password.
after that you have to go to your bank's online banking portal and use this one time user ID and password to create a more realistic easy to remember user ID (like your name) and a password. after this step you will be asked to give another password generally called profile password and your mobile number. This profile password will be asked by online banking portal whenever you want to change your personal details later on. Also profile password is must to add any others account in your list of beneficiaries(people you want to give money to). Mobile is used to authenticate your transactions with one time password sent through sms immediately after you initialize any transactions. Also sms' are used to keep you alert about any activity on your account.  Like ATM withdrawls, third party addition(beneficiary), any transfers, deposits etc.

Remember before starting to login for the first time
1. Be ready with two strong passwords (min. 8 characters containing alphabets, numbers, special characters like !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, etc. caps letters.
2. Choose your passwords very carefully not to be guessed easily by even your family members. (Its money matter after all :-))
3. Give your mobile number which you are not going to change in near future till its very necessary.

While doing your first login
1. Be carefull you are ready with the above said details.
2. After login using temporary one time used ID/ password you need to fill some information (password, mobile etc.) within a time limit (e.g 2 minutes) otherwise it will result in time-out of login.
3. If time-out occurs you will no longer be able to feed your mobile number online, for that you need to contact your bank branch.

After these processes you are ready to do anything which online banking enables us to do.....

cheers!!!
enjoy!

o, oh

I forgot to mention while asking for the online banking facility from your bank ask for the transaction rights also. otherwise you will have to again visit your branch to do so.
